6. When and why did any of these groups interact?
During the early centuries of the common era, these groups came into contact because of several reasons. The Moors were sent to conquer land for the Umayyad Caliphate and to convert people to the religion of Islam. They arrived in Spain and on the southern Iberian Peninsula, where they met the Florentines and possibly Venetians when they would travel upward in Italy. Cyprus was the most important holding for the western Europeans which the Turks would later conquer and take control over. These conflicts not only united two different worlds, but also reunited the western Europeans with their own ancient Mediterranean past, which the Southwestern Asians adopted into their culture. Europeans also discovered new technologies since during this the Asians were much more advanced.
